REST IN PEACE, CHIEF THOMAS J. HEICHEL

As many of you have already heard, our beloved former Chief of Police Tom Heichel passed away this past Friday (March 20th). His family has asked me to help spread the word that rather than food, or cut flowers, if anyone wishes to provide anything, potted flowers would be best. Tom’s favorites were daffodils and tulips. They can be dropped off at, or delivered to, the Blendon Township Police Department, 6340 S. Hempstead Road, Westerville, Ohio 43081. The family will use them to decorate the visitation and memorial service, and then plant them around the Township.

Details on the services for Chief Heichel will be published soon in the Columbus Dispatch, and then I will post the information on the Township Website and Facebook Page.

Tom Heichel was first appointed Chief of Police in 1972. He retired in 2004. During those many years of long service as Chief, his character and leadership helped to shape our police department into who we are today. After retirement he worked tirelessly to continue to improve and beautify the community. His friendship, sense of humor and wise counsel, will be greatly missed.
